On Christmas Eve, Shiki (CV: Horiuchi Kenyuu) would inherit 8 billion yen. However, the large inheritance also made him the candidate of a life threatening attack. As a result, bodyguards (known as escorts) were employed to protect him (even though he personally said he did not need them) and the one chosen for the job was Yukari (CV: Nojima Kenji). However, the first meeting between bodyguard client did not go well because Shiki (32) was proud and did not seem to trust Yukari (who was just 20 and had a very childish appearance). Yukari was so pissed he just poured a glass of water over Shiki. Despite the embarrassment, Shiki still accepted Yukari as the bodyguard. When Yukari was with Shiki, he noticed a few interesting things: (1) Shiki seemed to know the yakuza and (2) his back was covered with dangerous scars, and (3) he did not seem to have proper work and just went shopping, to the gym or in the evening to the club. Yukari also noticed that Shiki was very skilled. For example, when the child fell down from the escalator, Yukari just froze but Shiki was able to jump and save the kid. The more skilled Yukari found Shiki was, the more he felt his presence was not needed. He was upset because not only did he fail to do his job properly, he was constantly saved by his client =.=. Still, Yukari noticed a sense of warmth in Shiki. It was different from the warmth that came from Mashiro (CV: Toochika Kouichi ), the brother-like figure who had always looked after him since his parents death in a traffic accident. In fact, it was out of admiration for Mashiro that he joined the escort company, currently owned by Enomoto (CV:Konishi Katsuyuki). From letter bombs to nearly being run over by a car, the threat against Shiki seemed to be escalating to a point it was impossible for him to stay in his own mansion. Hence, they moved to a secret place but living together with Shiki gradually made Yukari more and more attracted to the latter. Just when Yukari fell in love, he learned about the cruel truth…Turned out that the one who was really going to inherit the money was Yukari and the money was from the grandfather who cried with him and comforted him when his parents passed away. His grandfather also died half a year ago. On Christmas Eve, Yukari would be 21 and that’s the age of becoming an adult in America and consequently could inherit the money from his grandfather (who lived in America along with Yukari and his parents until the latter died). Shiki was really the #1 escort and worked with Enomoto and Mashiro. He was supposed to guard Yukari, along with other guards including Mashiro. So, Yukari was fooled all along and instead of being the escort, he was really the VIP who was to be escorted vv. Minami sensei gave away many hints in this drama actually. First, the scars and the fact that Shiki knew the yakuza leader (because he once escorted him). Second, when Yukari was first kissed by Shiki, he noticed there was no scent of alcohol (meaning Shiki didn’t drink at all!). However, the biggest hint was really why Yukari, a rookie (and an extremely unreliable one ^^;;) would be assigned to such an important case and to escort such an important VIP! Still, I feel sorry for Yukari because he was not only fooled by Shiki but also by Mashiro (his brother like figure >_<). However, in return for the sufferings, he actually got a very nice birthday gift – Shiki!
What is interesting about this drama CD is the twist in the plot (though it is very foreseeable). For those interested, you can read the spoilers above (but make sure you have first listened to the drama or it will really spoil the fun). One problem I find in many BL stories is that the author jumps right into H scenes without giving the characters time to "truly fall in love". Fortunately, such is not so much the case here because the author at least gave some time for Shiki and Yukari to "know each other" before hurrying to the H bit (which is good).  Having said that though, I think Yukari gave up his admiration for Mashiro a bit too easily ^^;; I mean he had admired the guy for some time and Mashiro seemed to be quite gentle to him as well. How in the world then would he fall for Shiki so quickly !? In the booklet, Minami sensei wrote a short story about Yukari and Shiki after this incident. Yukari is really sweet but I think his obsession with festivities and making Shiki play "oni" made me wonder if Yukari is really 20 or really just 12 ^^;;. Overall, I think the plot is fairly okay. There are two scenes which I like: The first is when Yukari learned about Shiki’s brother’s death and told Shiki that he already had a brotherly figure – Mashiro and did not need another "brother" (he was afraid Shiki was merely treating him as a replacement of his perished brother). Shiki replied with the fact that he would not want to sleep with his brother too ^0^. The other scene is when Yukari was kidnapped, thinking he was "taken away" in Shiki’s place and that his kidnappers had mistaken the target. He actually was glad that it was him and not Shiki who was taken vv.
When I looked at the booklet of this CD, I was like … huh? Yukari is a 20 year old man and in the business of being a bodyguard!? No wonder how I looked at him, he appeared to be like a 12 year old young girl =.=|| Luckily, Nojiken (my motive for listening to this CD) sounded more manly (as he used a deep voice) than I imagined and made Yukari more acceptable (otherwise, this would just be shota to me :D). Nojiken’s Yukari is cute but not overly sweet and sugary and was brave and manly enough at times though when his thinking was still very otome ^v~. Having said that though, I think it’s a pity to cast Nojiken but not make good use of his major strength – crying. I really think Yukari could cry out when he discovered the truth ;_; but he did not even sob x_x.Â
Compared to Yukari, I am not so sure I like Horiuchi san’s Shiki. This is because when I first saw the character design, I thought Konitan would fit the role of Shiki better whereas Horiuchi san would fit the role of Enomoto better. This is because Shiki seemed to be more the "action" type while Enomoto seemed to be more the "mastermind" type. However, after reading the excerpt from the booklet and how Yukari would tease Shiki as "ojiisan", then I felt maybe it was not a bad idea after all as Horiuchi san’s Shiki really sounded like an ojiisan (explodes). Â
Toochika’s Mashiro sounded like a gentle brother in this CD, which fit the image of Mashiro. His voice is also in the range that I like (mainly clean and high voice) but I think Toochika’s Mashiro is a bit "too kind" vv. Rather than "a kind brother", according to Minami sensei, the true personality of Mashiro is "queenlike". I think it is a pity the producers did not try to include at least a small setting where he can slip out those queenlike features. In my opinion, the set up of the character of Mashiro is similar to Hayase in the Slaver’s series where though on the surface he seems to be a guiding figure, in truth, he is really the "queen". Having said that, I wonder who the opponent of Mashiro is. I hope it is Enomoto (because this guy is just a Wakamiya lookalike XD…to the extent I was screaming "Freezing Eye" when I was listening to this drama :p).
Why cast Konitan and not use him at all !? The role of Enomoto is so little I’m pissed because Konitan is using his non-hetare, mature voice (which is quite rare) and yet he has such as small role ;_;. Also, I do seem to like the setup for Enomoto, so elegant and so mastermind like.Â
To conclude, I think Motto Entertainment should fire whoever did the casting because s/he was smart enough to get the "right" people but could not assign them the proper roles vv, resulting in the only defect (?) in this drama CD. Otherwise, I am fairly satisfied. Having said that, I also realized just how much I like authors who write for Lynx *O*! Katoh Elena, Kitazawa Jinko, Izumi Katsura, and now Minase Fuuko sensei ^o^.
